Ceredigion has again recorded no new cases of coronavirus, according to official figures.

Data released by Public Health Wales this lunchtime shows that Ceredigion is the only county in Wales not to record a single new case of Covid-19.

Carmarthenshire has recorded 11 new cases today while Gwynedd recorded nine; Powys, seven and Pembrokeshire, six.

However, today’s data includes 33 cases that were identified on 25 January and have only today been added to the official figures.

A total of 227 new cases were recorded across Wales over the past 24 hours.

Four deaths have been recorded today taking the total to 5,495.

Of those deaths, 927 have been recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of North Wales, 472 in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and Powys Health Board has recorded 63.

However, figures collated by the Office of National Statistics, which tally every death certificate where Covid-19 is mentioned, put the death toll much higher in Wales

Between 3 January 2020 and 12 March 2021, 7,699 death certificates gave mention to Covid-19 with 1,355 in Betsi Cadwaladr; 727 in Hywel Dda and 253 in Powys.

The vaccination rollout is continuing across Wales with 1,320,188 people receiving their first jab and 378,795 people receiving their second.

Dr Eleri Davies, incident director for the outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “The Public Health Wales Covid-19 data on the public-facing dashboard includes 33 new positive results from tests carried out on 25 January.

“The reporting of these tests was delayed because of a discrepancy between different data views, which has been investigated and there are now processes in place to help identify such issues.

“The results were split across several health board areas, but with larger numbers (11) in the Betsi Cadwaldr University Health Board.

“Supermarkets can now sell non-essential items and garden centres can open in Wales. This slight easing of Covid lockdown rules is encouraging and while the level of infection across Wales has declined in recent weeks, there are still several areas which have significantly higher rates.

“In many areas of Wales, the numbers of cases are falling. It is now so important that we don’t throw away the substantial gains that we have made, and I would like to send a clear message to everyone that coronavirus hasn’t disappeared and there are still a large number of people who have not been vaccinated. In order to protect everyone, including the most vulnerable, we must all stick to the rules.

“Welsh Government restrictions state that you should not go into any other household or mix indoors with other people who you don’t live with.”
