Gwynedd and Anglesey councils have come together to thank residents for keeping the counties safe.
In a joint statement, the authorities issued their thanks, saying residents had followed coronavirus guidance, which has led currently to lower rates in both counties.
The political leaders of the neighbouring councils are urging people to “do the right thing” by keeping up the good work in order to continue to keep their families, friends and communities safe.
The joint appeal from Gwynedd Council leader, Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn and Anglesey Council leader, Cllr Llinos Medi, comes after four North Wales councils, the Welsh Government and other key partners agreed to support extra restrictions to help fight coronavirus in the region.
As of 6pm today (1 October) extra restrictions are being introduced in the counties of Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.
The restrictions mean residents in those counties will only be able to meet people they don’t live with outdoors for the time being.
They will not be able to form, or be in, extended households (sometimes called a “bubble”).
By taking early action, partners hope they can slow the upward trend in cases seen there over the past week or so – helping to protect local people from the virus, as well as businesses from more radical lockdown measures further down the line.
Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn said: “I’m very pleased with the positive response of Gwynedd residents; and their continued support will be invaluable during these difficult times.
"It is important to stress that if the situation changes here and the number of coronavirus cases rise again – we could also face stricter regulations and a local lockdown.
"We want to avoid this at all costs, which is why we’re appealing to people to keep to the guidance, to respect and look after each other and to be more careful than ever.”
Cllr Llinos Medi noted: “We have seen a positive response from the vast majority of residents on Anglesey to current Welsh Government guidance and this is definitely working in our favour at the moment.
"As we know all too well, however, things can change very quickly if we do not continue to follow the rules and do what is right to protect our families, friends, businesses and local communities.
"Keep adhering to social distancing, wash your hands regularly and wear a face covering when you have to. It’s vital we all continue to do this to keep Anglesey and Wales safe.”
Both Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils remain committed to continue working with Welsh Government and other key partners to try to keep coronavirus cases as low as possible and avoid any further local restrictions.
There are currently no legal restrictions on people travelling to parts of Wales which are not under local restrictions, including Gwynedd and Anglesey. However, people are being asked to think carefully about making journeys.
