BRONGLAIS Hospital’s new director has said the “challenging” job has left him and Hywel Dda Health Board with a lot of work to do.

Dr Phil Jones, who took over the hospital director role in August, said he was still putting together a management team at the hospital to help lead Bronglais into the future, but admitted that there was still work to do to ensure the hospital provides the services needed in mid Wales.

Dr Jones, the hospital’s former stroke lead, has been at Bronglais for over 20 years and said he realised how much of a challenge the role would be, with one of the key priorities being to appoint staff to positions.

Speaking at a Bronglais recruitment day, he said: “It’s challenging. There’s a lot of work to do both for Bronglais and mid Wales.

“We’re building up the management team currently with people still to interview. We should have a new general manager in January and other service delivery managers.

“The plan is to consolidate Bronglais. This has been an excellent day and the health board has done an excellent job, but we need to build on this to fill our positions."
