A CEREDIGION housing association has been thanked for providing a storage facility to an Aberystwyth social enterprise group which collects and redistributes surplus food from supermarkets.
Following requests for empty premises in Aberystwyth in January, both for a storage centre and a ‘pay-as-you-feel cafe’, Aber Food Surplus has been given use of the former Enoc Huws shop on the corner of Prospect Street and Vulcan Street for storage.
The group were given use of the property by its owners, Tai Ceredigion housing association.
Christopher Woodfield, of Aber Food Surplus, said: “We have now got a premises where we can store food. It consists of two small room with fridges and freezers.
“We are really appreciative of Tai Ceredigion and we are hoping to work with them some more with their tenants and clients.
“Tai Ceredigion refurbished it by putting in new flooring and painting the rooms, etc.
Despite finding the new storage facility, AFS is still on the look out for an empty property which could permanently house their ‘pay-as-you-feel’ café.
Chris added: “We are a not-for-profit social enterprise with charitable objectives. Ideally, we would like to run the project as a job really — we are all volunteers.
“If anyone knows of an empty property in town, please do let us know.”
