AN ENDURANCE athlete is running from the Llyn Peninsula to the NEC in Birmingham to raise money to fight cancer.

Huw Williams, 45, is well known in the area for his long-distance running, whether its him running several marathons around Pwllheli RFC’s pitch or slogging it out for 156 miles across the Sahara Desert in the ‘Marathon Des Sables’ earlier this year.

Huw’s efforts have helped raise thousands of pounds for local charities.

His latest venture will see him run from his cow shed in Llannor to the popular Midlands venue, a distance of approximately 140 miles.

“I’ll be setting off Tuesday, 16 January and plan on arriving on the first day of the National Running Show four days later,” Huw told the Cambrian News.

“I’m looking forward to it and putting the Llannor to Birmingham route up there with classic routes like London to Paris... Sort of!

“The majority of the race will be on the tarmac, which I hate, but I hate cancer more so I’m more than up for the adventure.

“Like many, I have had friends affected by cancer and looking to help.”

Cancer Research is also the official charity partner for the National Running Show, hence Huw’s decision to fund-raise for the worthy cause.
