JET skiers are hoping to raise thousands for charity as they head from Black Rock Sands to Aberdyfi in unison this weekend.

On Saturday (16 June), jet ski company PWCGwynedd are hosting the second Black Rock Blast jet ski ride and fundraiser event which sees over a hundred riders power from Black Rock Sands to Aberdyfi and back.

The inaugural event last year, which saw approximately 50 participants, raised well over £4,000 for charity with organisers hoping to raise even more this year.

This year’s nominated charities for money raised are Wales Air Ambulance and Aberdyfi and Barmouth Lifeboat Stations.

BRP will be supporting the Black Rock Blast event alongside Robert Owen Marine, a local Sea-Doo dealer based in Porthmadog.

The purpose of the event is not only to raise money for good causes but also to highlight responsible personal watercraft (PWC) use and north Wales attractions.

At the event, sports vehicle company BRP will be promoting the Sea-Doo clean sea project, a shoreline/island clean-up initiative that has been developed to help keep waterways trash-free so that everyone can enjoy the beauty of nature.

As well as this, Sea-Doo will also be shining a light on its responsible rider campaign, which highlights the best practice when riders are out on the water.

Organiser Scott Beeland, of PWCGwynedd, said: “We raised £4,220 last year and we’re hoping to beat that this year.

“There are lots of non-jet skiers attending for the beach fun and a few beers at night time.

“If you’re free please come down and help us out in raising what we can and enjoying the day”

Mike Loach, district commercial manager for UK and Ireland for BRP, said: “It’s great to be getting involved with the Black Rock Blast again this year as it was an amazing experience.

“The event raises money for issues which are in line with our company’s morals and standards. With rider safety a priority for us, it’s vital that the RNLI and local air ambulance services that help protect the PWC riders when out on the water receive the funding they need.

“This year we’ll be incentivising attendees to donate by offering individuals who do an opportunity to ride a Sea-Doo. As well as this, everyone who donates will be put into a raffle to win a £500 BRP goodie bag”.

Richard Owen, owner of Robert Owen Marine, added: “Last year this event was just an idea which turned into a lovely reality.

“The number of riders that showed up was overwhelming and it’s all for such important causes.

“We want our riders to be safe out on the water and these kinds of events really promote the best practice. We’re delighted to be working with BRP again to offer participants more for joining this year’s extended 70-mile ride.”

The event begins at 11am from Morfa Bychan (Black Rock Sands) where a series of events and stalls will be hosted.
