At a time when the Welsh Government is encouraging the use of bikes and wanting us all of us to get fitter and healthier it’s very disappointing to hear that Faenor Community Council have relinquished the lease on the bike trail at Waunfawr.

This trail was designed and established by Cllr John Roberts who is keen to keep it going but it seems that the community council didn’t want to promote it or want to keep it.

Many children have only recently discovered it as it was mentioned on a Facebook group and feel very let down by the recent news.

The county council have recently reviewed the lease terms and have put up the cost and decreased the length of the lease making it difficult for Cllr Roberts to argue for maintaining the lease. The community hasn’t been consulted .

Surely as the county council and community council have sponsored this previously they can come to a mutual agreement to maintain this valuable asset for the community.

After all it could be another green space taken away from us here at Waunfawr as the Hafan y Waun Development looms over us and we wait to see if the application for Village Green Status is granted.
