LIGHTNING has struck twice within weeks in one Meirionnydd village.
Last week, Edward Harris’ house in Bryncrug was hit by a lightning strike, just a few hundred feet away from The Peniarth Arms pub, which was also struck by a thunderbolt late last month.
Mr Harris, who is in his 80s, was keeping a wary eye on the weather as stormy conditions swept across the region last Wednesday.
Then, just before midnight, the pensioner saw a “blinding flash” and heard a “sonic boom” a moment before all his lights went out.
Investigating the damage when his lights returned a few minutes later, Mr Harris found his Sky box was no longer working.
Following a visit from a Sky engineer two days later, it became apparent that a lightening bolt had hit his Sky dish and “burnt it to a crisp”.
The lightning strike occurred just three weeks after Mr Harris’ local pub, The Peniarth Arms, had to be evacuated when a lightning strike set fire to the attic space of the business.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online now
