A SUCCESSFUL litter-pick in Machynlleth could be repeated after the organiser of the event hailed it a success.
Jacinta MacDermot, who organised the litter-pick on Saturday, 8 April, said the event saw over 30 people attend and more than 40 bags of rubbish collected from the grounds of Y Plas, roadsides and the car park in the town.
While Jacinta said those who had taken part in the event had enjoyed it, helped by good weather on the day, she said it was time that there was more consideration given to how public money is spent and what sort of facilities should be available to taxpayers, especially after the loss of Potters Yard in Machynlleth.
She said: “We had a great turnout – over 30 people of all ages – and we cleared over 40 bags of rubbish from the Plas grounds, the roadsides and from around the town car park. Some of it had obviously been there for years.
“It was a great way of getting the community together and many people said they enjoyed it and hoped it would become a regular event.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support, including Keep Wales Tidy who provided the equipment and made sure everyone stayed safe.”
But Jacinta said there had been questions about why volunteers were needed to help keep the town tidy when Powys County Council should be doing more.
