MEMBERS have been busy celebrating their 40th anniversary. After an enjoyable Christmas dinner at Machynlleth Golf Club in December, there was a party in early January to which former members and repre-sentatives of the PMFWI Trustees in Welshpool were invited. County chairman, Thelma Watkin, and Audrey Vaughan, a fellow trustee, joined for Machinations in Llanbrynmair for a Sunday afternoon tea. Many old friends as well as our current members joined in with the event — as well as a few prospective members. Fortunately, the weather was kind so there were no problems for travellers from afar. Two volumes of archives were on display showing previous activities of the group. The tea party was followed by the usual monthly meeting in the community centre the following evening, at which plans for 2016 were discussed. President June Hill welcomed three new members, Sandra Harris, Heather Wood and Jill Shepherd. There were apologies from Edith Pryce and Shirley Evans. Secretary Lorraine Kitt produced a draft programme for 2016, some gaps were filled in immediately and the president circulated sheets during the meeting to establish the interests of members and reported that these ranged from learning to play whist, through a variety of craftwork, to trips to the theatre. There were also a number of suggestions for possible outings. The January PFMWI newsletters were distributed. Several members said they wanted to attend some of the county events. The Mynyddog Centenary Scrapbook was on display and will be delivered to the WI Office in Welshpool before the end of January, so that it can be entered in the county competition. The whist drive, which is held monthly, will, in January, be sponsored by Mynyddog WI, with members pro-viding the supper and raffle prizes. An invitation has been received from Llanwnog WI to join them for their March meeting and several members said that they would like to go. A list of the resolutions shortlisted for the national WI AGM in June was passed round and members were asked to indicate which resolution they would most like to see put forward. There were many thanks to be made. Jane Jardine, the social secretary, was thanked for her splendid organisation of the Christmas dinner and the anniversary tea party. A special thank you was proposed to Anna, who ensures that the committee room where they meet is warmed and tidy before and after meetings. President June was thanked for the supper she provided. Rosie Williams Jones won the raffle.
