The Celtic challenge trophy regularly played for between the Llanilar-based FUGS (Falcon Useless Golf Society) and current holders, the Bridge Hotel Golf Society, of Arklow, has returned to Ceredigion. The match was keenly contested at Borth and Ynyslas golf course on Saturday, 14 May, in glorious sunshine. The Irish team were short of two players, so a draw was made and FUGS chairman John Murphy and Clive (Ghostie) Williams were chosen to play for the visiting team. Even with their vast local golfing experience - and playing on Murphy’s home course, the FUGS were too strong for the visitors and won by 191 points to 180.
