A MACHYNLLETH musician will climb and juggle blindfolded at one of the tallest mountains in the UK to raise money for an environmental charity.

Scott Boohai, who is a member of global super group ‘The Gustav Chekov complex’, will climb Scafell Pike and juggle blindfolded at the top in May 2022.

Scott is taking on the challenge to raise money for the environmental charity ‘The World Land Trust’, a global organisation who help to protect some of the planets more important ecosystems.

But this is not the first time Scott has taken on such a challenge, five years ago Scott juggled blindfolded on the top of Snowdon.

Scott said: “I can’t wait to do the Scafell challenge as, like most people, we really haven’t been able to go anywhere with the whole Covid-19 situation.

“The Snowdon juggle was great although it was pretty windy at the top which makes it really hard to compensate especially when you can’t see, you just have to react to how string the wind feels and which direction it is coming from!

“We got lots of donations from others who had just reached the top of Snowdon as well which was nice and none of them were expecting a free juggling show to take place at the top of a mountain in those conditions. I even managed a short burst of juggling 6 balls rather than three but it didn’t last long with the wind.

“For the Snowdon juggle, I also juggled at various locations and events in the lead up so managed to raise more money that way. Some of it is about getting people to donate direct to the charity or charities so we don’t always get to see the full financial impact.

“I used to be a professional juggler or it just wouldn’t be possible! I used to perform with a theatre company back in the 1990s at festivals and doing street theatre and things like that, and it just seemed like it would grab people’s attention.”

Scott Boohai is also part of a 40-musician strong global supergroup “including Grammy award winners, indie heroes and rock legends who have been working on a much-anticipated album release recording at the legendary Welsh cottage Bron-yr-Aur”.

The album was due to be released this summer, in 2022, but Covid-19 and vinyl shortages have caused it to be delayed.

Scott said: “The mountain juggling idea came about due to the delay and the wish to keep raising money for important global causes.

“The album will be released on Birmingham based label, Ironman Records. Industry insiders who have heard a partial preview of the album described it as ‘like a Welsh Sergeant Pepper’.

“Most formats will be available including a limited editions vinyl pressing, available in the USA, Europe and via mail-order.”

Scott Boohai added: “It’s such a shame that the album won’t be out this Summer, but we don’t want to rush the release of such an important record. We have huge interest around the world for this recording and want to make sure when it does come out that it is available for everyone.”
