Harlech residents have been celebrating the town’s record-breaking success with a party.

Batala Bermo and others joined together on Saturday to celebrate the news that Ffordd Pen Llech has been crowned the steepest street in the world.

The street’s accolade has drawn attention from across the world and a party was held on Saturday under the shadow of Harlech Castle to celebrate.

Gwynedd Council congratulated the local community for its work to secure recognition for Ffordd Pen Llech in the Guinness World Records as the steepest street in the world.

With a gradient of 37.45 per cent, Ffordd Pen Llech has secured the title previously held by Baldwin Street, Dunedin in New Zealand.

Cllr Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet member for economic development, said: “Many congratulations to the community of Harlech on securing the Guinness World Records designation. This has certainly meant a lot of hard work by a group of people in the area, and we as a council have been very happy to support them with aspects of their submission. As a location that is part of a World Heritage Site, Harlech is already a very popular destination, with a castle dating back to the Middle Ages which has played an important role in the history of Wales. Located on the Coastal Way of Wales, Harlech offers a wide selection of fascinating locations to visit, including fantastic beaches, a popular golf course as well as a striking part of the Wales Coastal Path. With the confirmation that Ffordd Pen Llech is the steepest street in the world, it is very likely that Harlech will receive international attention and I hope this will offer a significant boost to the local economy and to businesses in the area.”
