TRAFFIC-calming measures are being demanded on a ‘danger’ road in Porthmadog to protect pedestrians.

Cllr Richard Williams said the public could be at risk while crossing the busy road on Heol Fadog.

He told Porthmadog Town Council on Tuesday that many people use a pathway leading onto this road as a shortcut.

He said: “This is a popular shortcut to get on to the main road, but I’m concerned that the traffic pedestrians meet on their way out can be a danger.

“I know a lot of elderly people use this path and it worries me that some of the traffic is going too fast and it’s very dangerous.

“I’d be grateful if the town council could meet with Gwynedd’s highway department to discuss this and see what type of traffic-calming measures could be put in place.

“Something needs to be done to slow traffic down on this road, especially during the summer when it is very busy along there.”

Town council chairman, Selwyn Griffiths, said the council will contact Gwynedd Council to arrange a meeting.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Whilst the council’s transportation and Street care service has not received correspondence on this matter yet, we will be responding to the town council as soon as we receive information regarding their concerns.”
