THE COUNCIL has signed a contract to keep the toilets open until next March; it will cost £1,736 plus VAT. The council has approached the county council for a new door for the gents’ toilets.It had asked for signs showing the direction to the Ganolfan and also the river Sychan as well as a bus stop sign from Gwynedd Coun-cil, but unfortunately there was no money available with a predicted cost of £500.Therefore, the council decided to move forward with the work itself, but to still ask Gwynedd Council for the bus stop sign.On Remembrance Sunday, Meirion Roberts, chairman, represented the council at the ceremony. £25 was paid for the wreath towards the Poppy Appeal.After asking Gwynedd Council to look into the condition of the section of the A493 be-tween Hafoty and Dolgelynen following five accidents in recent months, the council is now awaiting a report from an assessment made of the location.Notice was given to the community council that after this winter there will be no salt provided by Gwynedd Council.Therefore, reluctantly, the community council has decided to take over the responsibility, but on the condition that the bins are left at their location.Further consultation with Mr Ramsbottom is needed before the council makes a decision on the subject of repairing the clock.The problem of the loss of sheep in the community was discussed for a length of time with ideas of how the area could be monitored.There were suggestions that CCTV cameras could be put at various points in the village and the council decided it would look further into this proposal.The council will also look into purchasing new benches for Cwrt and Pennal.Donations were given to two groups.The International Sheep Dog Event, which is coming to Tywyn next year and is a major event for the area, was given £100.And Dail Dysynni, the local community paper, received a donation of £75.The Code of Conduct was adhered to while discussing the following: Planning Application NP75/E240, Esgairweddan, Pennal SY20 9LA Consultation, council had no objections; Planning Application NP5/75/E239, Cefn Cynhafal, Pennal SY20 9LB.Representatives from Snowdonia National Park will be present at the next meeting.

Christmas

ON FRIDAY, 11 December, at 7pm the Machynlleth Wind Band joins the Dyfi Singers for a concert of seasonal music.This is set to be a lot of fun with Christmas music and carols aplenty. Tickets cost £5 and are available from per-formers, Pennal Stores and on the door.On Thursday, 22 December, the chapel and the church come together for a bilingual service of traditional readings and carols with Revs Richard Vroom and Terry Edwards at 7pm in Pennal Church.Also on Tuesday, 22 December, at 2pm, Ysgol Pennal come to the church for their annual Christingle Service, where all parents and friends are welcome to celebrate the end of term.On Sunday, 3 January, at 7pm at Pennal Church there is the second ‘Day of Christmas Concert’ (this year it’s the tenth day) when local musicians and others come together for an evening of music, poetry, fun and mulled wine in aid of local charities. It was a very good event last year and every-one concerned is hoping for a repeat.
