PLANS to upgrade mobile phone coverage in Gwynedd will benefit residents in notorious ‘not spots’ according to the area’s MP.
Plaid Cymru’s Liz Saville Roberts has welcomed planned upgrades to the local mobile phone network after EE announced plans to install new mobile sites in Dwyfor Meirionnydd in addition to upgrades to the existing network.
The sites will improve coverage for local residents, as well as connecting the emergency services as part of EE’s commitment to deliver the Emergency Services Network.
The MP has been campaigning to improve mobile coverage across Dwyfor Meirionnydd since her election and has already met with several network providers to lobby for improvements.
Mrs Saville Roberts is calling on other network providers to follow suit and do more to help bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities.
Three new mobile sites have already secured planning permission; the first is on the A4212 near Llyn Celyn, Y Bala, a notorious not-spot for coverage.
The other covers Edern and Morfa Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula whilst the third is at Aberllefenni in Meirionnydd.
The sites have received planning permission but will not be actively transmitting for a few months yet.
Welcoming EE’s investment programme, Liz Saville Roberts MP said: “Mobile connectivity has long been an issue for many residents, businesses and visitors in Dwyfor Meirionnydd particularly in more outlying parts of the constituency."
