Residents in Machynlleth will find out this month whether there will be more delays to the Dyfi Bridge scheme.

The Welsh Government has now confirmed that it will reveal this month whether a public inquiry is needed into the plans.

Any decision to hold a public inquiry into the plans will add to frustrations in Machynlleth and the Dyfi Valley over delays to the scheme, which have seen little progress made in the last two years.

Plans were initially unveiled in 2015, but the green light for the scheme was not given until 2017 with the announcement that the Welsh Government would provide funding.

However, there has still been no official confirmation of the scheme proceeding with any start date for work, despite calls from local residents and the town council for progress to be made.

The Welsh Government spokesperson has now confirmed the announcement into whether a public inquiry is necessary will be made later this month.

Transport minister Ken Skates had told Machynlleth Town Council in December that he was due to make a decision at the end of December about whether to proceed with traffic orders before announcing in January if a public inquiry will be held into the plans.
