A BOW Street estate will finally be connected to the rest of the village by a footpath after eight years of campaigning, a councillor has announced.

Cllr Paul Hinge told the Cambrian News this week he was “delighted” that work will soon begin on a new footpath between the Bryncastell estate and the A487 through Bow Street, a route which currently means pedestrians have to walk over a narrow bridge with no pavement.

The announcement comes after eight years of campaigning by Cllr Hinge and residents and, although it is not the exact scheme which was asked for, Cllr Hinge said it was “better than nothing”.

“I’m delighted that this much-needed work is to be carried out,” he said. “Although it is not the scheme we campaigned for all these years, it is better than nothing.

“Bryncastell and it’s surroundings has the largest concentration of residents in Bow Street and as this route has become busier and busier with traffic, it was imperative that a safer route for pedestrians was created.

“The request had originally asked for a footbridge to be bolted on to the side of the bridge with pathways, but this cost was outside the parameters of ‘safer route’ funding from Welsh Government, so this scheme is a compromise, but a very much needed facility.”

The work is due to start on 6 March and will last until 7 April, and there will be a road closure over the bridge daily from 9am to 3.15pm during this period.
