PLANNERS have given the green light for a modern home on the Llyn Peninsula despite residents warning of “over-development” and the effect the building would have on the Llyn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Gwynedd Council planning committee members approved the plans for the two-bedroom house at Anhywel, Lôn Pont Morgan at a meeting on Monday after it was recommended for approval by planners.
The application was deferred at a planning committee on 16 January so that members could visit the site to gauge the impact the new build would have on the surrounding homes and landscape.
While a previous application for a house on the site was refused in 2013 - with an appeal to the Welsh Planning Inspectorate also refused - council planners said the new plan “is significantly different from the previously considered plan”.
Despite the changes, Llanengan Community Council and nearby residents objected to the plans.
The community council said it had concerns over the “over-development of a small and prominent site” and over the safety of access to the site.
Despite objections, a council planning report said: “It is not considered that the proposed development would have a detrimental impact on the character or appearance of the area and, although it is a modern design, it is considered that it would suit the surrounding area.
“Generally, it is considered that the proposal would not be unacceptably detrimental to the amenities of the residents of nearby houses."
