TWO high-profile windfarm applications could still get the go-ahead in Montgomeryshire after the High Court quashed UK Government rulings to refuse them.

Proposed windfarms at Llanbrynmair and Carnedd Wen were among five in Powys rejected by the UK government three months ago sparking delight from protesters and a furious response from the Welsh Government.

The proposed development of 30 turbines at Llanbrynmair and 50 turbines at Carnedd Wen were to form part of one large windfarm stretching 8km north to south and being 4.5km wide in places.

The decisions by the Department of Energy and Climate Change to refuse RWE Innogy’s 150MW Carnedd Wen and RES’ 90MW Llanbrynmair will now go back under the spotlight, but campaigners remain confident that the original decision will ultimately stand.

Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies said: “I haven’t got any concerns.

“This isn’t a reversal of the decision at all. In a sense we have gone back to where we were, but I am more than hopeful that the outcome will be the same."
