A LLANIDLOES councillor has urged Powys County Council to take “urgent” action to carry out work on the town’s street lights, warning that the town is suffering from “a number of very black spots”.

Cllr Gareth Morgan has previously criticised the county council for the situation with street lights in Llanidloes, saying that many areas in the town are “being left in total darkness throughout the winter”.

While Powys Council has said that work has begun in north Powys, with work initially in Newtown, to convert street lights to LED lights, Cllr Morgan said that work is needed urgently in Llanidloes.

He said: “A number of lights in Llanidloes have been out for some time. These are not those put out of use due to economics.

“I am pleased to see the team installing LED lamps in north Powys, but the north is a vast area. Llanidloes is in need of urgent attention to street lighting repairs and attention.”

Cllr John Brunt, Powys Council’s Cabinet member for highways, said the work would help the county council reduce its carbon footprint and energy costs.
