AM ELIN Jones has raised the issue of the long-term resourcing of the National Library of Wales in First Minister’s Questions in the National Assembly.

The Library has faced significant budget cuts in recent years. Staff have endured pay freezes over many years and changes to their pensions, and the numbers of employees have been cut.

At First Minister’s Questions, Miss Jones sought reassurances from the Welsh Government that the National Library would be properly resourced in future years.

Miss Jones said: “The past few years have been difficult for the National Library of Wales – a vital and iconic institution for Aberystwyth and Ceredigion. Despite successful efforts to welcome more visitors to the Library and to raise income from other sources, the financial squeeze has hit hard. Staff numbers have declined and employees have faced years of pay restraint.
