A PROPOSAL to raise council tax in some areas in Meirionnydd to help keep a leisure centre open has been approved by five community councils.
Members of Harlech and Ardudwy Leisure held discussions with community councils in the area earlier this year to discuss a financial package of support in order to secure the centre for years to come.
A written proposal was submitted to the councils of Talsarnau, Harlech, Llanfair, Dyffryn Ardudwy and Talybont and Barmouth, suggesting an increase in the precept.
Heidi Williams, chair of Harlech Ardudwy leisure group, said: “The proposal to increase the precept in these community council areas has been agreed and ratified by each community council.”
The leisure centre will also be offering free membership to local residents, which will give a reduced entry price to the centre, and access to any offers that they have on.
