CEREDIGION Council is to be subjected to the second highest funding cut in the whole of Wales.

The council will see its funding cut by 3.4 per cent in 2016/17, taking the total amount of cash it receives from the Welsh Government below £100m to £96.57m, compared to the central Welsh Government funding of just over £100m in this financial year.

Only Powys Council has seen a higher funding cut, with the Welsh Government announcing that funding for Powys will be slashed by 4.1 per cent. Cardiff Council has received the best funding settlement, with a cut of just 0.1 per cent.

But while rural areas have seen significant funding cuts compared to more urban areas, Public Services Minister Leighton Andrews has insisted councils are receiving better than expected funding with a cut in funding of just 1.4 per cent across the full council funding budget.
