THE Labour General Election manifesto offers “real hope” to the people of Ceredigion, the party’s county candidate has said.
Labour revealed its manifesto last week, seven days after a draft version was leaked to media, and Dinah Mulholland – standing in Ceredigion – said the pledges are “particularly relevant here in Ceredigion.”
The policies outlined in the document include the scrapping of the so-called Bedroom Tax which affects 401 people in Ceredigion, and a rise in the Carer’s Allowance which will benefit 804 carers in Ceredigion by more than £500 a year each.
With more than 17,500 pensioners in Ceredigion, Labour has guaranteed to continue the Triple Lock on state pensions.
The party has also pledged to introduce a £10 minimum wage by 2020.
Ms Mulholland said: “Labour’s commitment to improving the lives of all of us in the UK is particularly relevant here in Ceredigion, as we can see from these figures. Britain is the sixth richest country in the world and yet ranks only 21st in terms of individual income.
“Labour’s far-reaching offer of real hope and security represents a guarantee of our wellbeing and our fiscal health and will be funded by tax increases that are utterly marginal to those with real wealth.
“No tax rises will affect anyone earning under £80,000 per year. "
