A NORTH Ceredigion councillor has called for more money for road repairs after English councils were given over £1bn to improve road conditions.
While English local authorities will get the additional funding to improve roads, there is unlikely to be a similar injection of money for Welsh councils with transport issues devolved to the Welsh Government.
However, Cllr Alun Lloyd Jones, who represents the Llanfarian ward, called for funding to be found by the Welsh Government to improve the condition of roads in Wales.
There have been improvements on Ceredigion’s roads with Ceredigion County Council launching an investment programme in 2013 and figures for 2014/15 showed that Ceredigion roads rated as ‘poor’ fell below 15 per cent for the first time in four years.
But Cllr Jones said more could be done. He said: “It is now urgent for repairs to be carried out to our roads. I would be urging the relevant minister to ensure that Wales, and thus Ceredigion, would be having a fair share for our urgent needs on A, B and C roads.”
Cllr Jones said he would be asking AM Elin Jones to push for increased funding for road repairs across Wales and in Ceredigion.
