IT’S the final chance to see Dan Roberson’s current exhibition at MOMA Machynlleth.
Dan Roberson: Pivotal Moments & Memories 1975-2015 continues until 23 January.
A lifelong painter, Dan returned to education as a mature student in 2006. He obtained a first class degree in fine art from Aberystwyth University and a Masters degree with distinction.
Dan describes himself as a painter who is inspired by the people and places that surround him.
It is of great importance to him that his work is accessible to all; his aim is to stimulate but never to alienate.
Painting, he believes, is the perfect vehicle for this.
He explores and attempts to deconstruct the prescribed notion of what constitutes beauty and challenges what historically is deemed worthy of the attention of a painter.
The work contains a strong narrative; the importance of communication and storytelling is very present.
However, his work is not limited by its descriptive nature, and the exploration of colour and reduction of form reveal a slow path towards abstraction.
Commenting on his work, Dan said: “This series of paintings explore and record various moments throughout a 40-year period.
“The exhibition is a self-portrait; it explores events throughout my 40 years as an everyday observer on this planet, from a simple embrace, to that awkward moment when your parents pick you up from your first ‘proper’ gig, or the overwhelming range of emotions attached to parenthood.
“They are events that have all helped lead to this moment.
“I hope this work offers the viewer an opportunity to reflect and to think about his or her own journey to the present.”
