ABERYSTWYTH Basketball Club and a social sporting club for people with disabilities have won a top award.
They have been presented with a disability in sport award after becoming the first club in Wales to offer walking basketball.
The Starlings Club - which supports people with a diverse range of ages, disabilities and health problems - started a dedicated section for walking basketball in association with the basketball club earlier this year.
The club was presented with their Disability Sport Wales Insport Ribbon Award at Plascrug Leisure Centre after the latest session of walking basketball.
The Starlings Club has been awarded insport accreditation for the group’s work which is as an exercise maintenance and social club for people who have been through the National Exercise Referral programme.
The award was presented by Ceredigion Sports Council’s Steven Jones along with Gemma Cutter from Disability Sport Wales and the Welsh National Head of the National Exercise Referral Scheme.
Helen Pearce, of the Starlings Club, said: “We are the first club in Wales to have a dedicated section for walking basketball and to offer total inclusivity and are proud to have achieved this award."
