I am 74 and self-isolating/shielding, because the government says that if I become infected I am “likely to be more seriously affected”. I am protecting myself and protecting the NHS, for everyone’s benefit.
But how am I supposed to eat while doing that? If I had an approved “underlying health condition” and I lived in England, by now I would have had a letter from the government that would supposedly have passported me into help from the local council and online from the supermarket chains.
But my condition is not on that list, and in any case I’m not sure whether the Welsh Government has put an equivalent scheme into place yet.
The position of reasonably fit over-70s is an issue that seems to have fallen completely through the net – are we supposed to go out and shop for groceries, or are we supposed not to be doing that to protect the NHS? If the latter, how will we be supported?
There seems to be a great deal of confusion and humbug in all this.
