Madam,
One of the headlines in your editions of 15 August reads ‘Frustration over lack of progress on new bridge’.
How many of us reading that line can declare feeling exactly the same way? Admittedly I live a few miles away, but Dyfi bridge concerns a good many in this vicinity and definitely plays a part in all our lives.
Earlier this year we saw, repeatedly, very attractive pictures of an artist’s impression of the new bridge......but that was all!
We were never told where the artist was standing when he/she did this artistry, let alone where the bridge would be!
We have lived here 30 years and still wish to read of positive progress.
Ieuan Owen, who had the ironmonger’s shop in Machynlleth told us discussion took place about a new bridge when he was a boy!
Reading the paragraphs below the headline the statements are shared amongst local people, councillors a transport minister, scheme contractors and Welsh Government.
Nowhere has a decision been voiced, or printed.
The main sticking point would seem to be ‘the flooding underneath the railway bridge, near the Dyfi’. Evidently no-one wishes to fully address this issue or take the responsibility for the facts of the frequency and/or possibilities of flooding in the future.
Meanwhile, we all grow older and greyer and the anxieties and perplexities of the current situation with the existing bridge persist!
Does this beleaguered bridge have to be no more before action is taken?
Yours etc, Jill Baxter, Abergynolwyn, Tywyn.
