An Aberystwyth University student is walking a marathon in memory of her friend, despite struggling with her own disabilities.

Chrissy Asplin, 24, is walking Aberystwyth promenade 22 times, the equivalent distance of a marathon, in memory of her friend Adele.

Adele suffered from ovarian cancer, and tragically lost her battle with the disease a day before her 50th birthday, on Tuesday, 28 January.

Chrissy said: “In memory of Adele, and to raise funds for Adele’s Princess Wish; the charity trust fund which she created before her passing. I shall be walking a marathon on 28 March 2020.”

“I hope that through doing this, not only will funds be raised to continue Adele’s legacy; but also offer her family and friends some comfort during this tough time, as it has myself.”

Chrissy will be walking the 26.2 miles with three of her friends on 28 March.

Despite suffering from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Dystonia, Chrissy is determined to finish the marathon.

“It’s likely I’ll be finishing, or doing most part, on crutches but it’s definitely worth it as Adele’s main wish was to continue her legacy after she had gone, and I just want to help in doing that,” she said.

She added: “The challenges we face will be nothing in comparison to what Adele faced with such bravery and tenacity.”

Housemates Jen Lawrence and Steph Humphreys will be walking the marathon with Chrissy, who is originally from Staffordshire. But also her friend from home Emiley Brown, who knew Adele personally, will also be making the journey to Aberystwyth to walk with her.
