Madam,

You report righteous and wholly admirable anger (‘Anger at £1.33m cut for cash-strapped council’) at the cuts Gwynedd is facing. But the reactions of Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn are bizarre.

These cuts are not the fault of the Welsh Government. They are the consequence of the cruel cuts that the Tory government is imposing on Wales by setting its grant to us at such a miserly figure.

Only getting rid of the Tory government in London will improve our plight here in Gwynedd.

Equally, the poorest here would be better off were the Plaid council to release the reserves they build up, according to their Her Gwynedd figures, between 2014 and 2018 in order to fill the shortfall.

Yours etc,

Ian MacIntyre, Shelbourne Court, Barmouth.
