Madam,
What a surprise, Cardigan Castle is losing money. Guess how they are going to solve the problem? Take on a business consultant for six or nine months. We have, therefore, the archetypal ‘Throw good money after bad’ scenario. Millions of pounds have been spent on the castle and it is heading the ‘White Elephant’ way, predicted by many. The Cardigan Castle of today remains a lost chance to be a great example of Welsh history and heritage. It will, of course, continue to win or be shortlisted for ‘design’ awards but that won’t reverse the loss-making trend. Let’s hope more heritage money isn’t poured in to keep it afloat. A total change of direction for its future is needed but it seems unlikely the powers-that-be would risk a loss of face in order for that to happen.
