ABERYSTWYTH town centre might be excluded from three-weekly refuse collection if the policy is implemented across the county.
The council is consulting with the public after it suggested a move from fortnightly general waste collection to once every three weeks, as well as the introduction of a new glass recycling collection on a three-weekly basis.
The proposals would see food waste and general recycling collections continue weekly, while there would be a fortnightly collection of absorbent hygiene products such as nappies, continence pads and feminine hygiene products.
But the Mayor Cllr Steve Davies suggested Aberystwyth Town Conservation area, which encompasses most of the town centre, might remain on two-weekly collections.
The town centre has been plagued with problems of strewn refuse, as highlighted in the Cambrian News’ Keep Aber Tidy campaign.
Cllr Davies told fellow town councillors: “Ceredigion County Council is considering making Aberystwyth Conservation Area a special area in terms of refuse collection.”
But the county council would not comment on the specifics of the proposal, only saying that “specific or localised” problems would be taken into account.
