A GREENFINGERED team of volunteers have scooped a runners-up prize at a national awards ceremony this week.

On Monday, Dref Werdd, a team which works tirelessly to keep water networks around Ffestiniog clean, secured second place in the Rivers and Coast category at the annual Tidy Wales Awards, even though they have only been operating for 18 months.

Gwydion ap Wynn, project manager, was thrilled with their accolade.

He said: “We’re very proud to have come second in this year’s Tidy Wales Awards for our work safeguarding our local rivers in Bro Ffestiniog, but, this would not have been possible without the help of our tireless volunteers and partners, Keep Wales Tidy.

“We’re very fortunate to have a core of hard working individuals that care for our local environment, and we want to thank all those that have continually turned up to the activities we’ve arranged over the past year and a half.

“There is still much to do, so hopefully this can encourage others to join us in the important work that we do."
