MEMBERS of Machynlleth Football Club were targeted in heated clashes at the Euro 2016 football tournament in France.

Around a dozen members of the team travelled to Lille ahead of the big Wales versus England clash on Thursday, and were part of a group of England and Wales fans attacked outside a bar by a handful of Russian ‘Ultras’.

As police arrived and the Russian fans dispersed, the Machynlleth FC members were videoed waving their flag and joining in a chant with England fans ‘f*** off Russia, we’re England and Wales”.

The Russian fans wore T-shirts emblazoned with the ‘Orel Butchers’ - a well-known hooligan group, affiliated to Lokomotiv Moscow, one of the Russian capital’s football clubs.

The incident followed earlier, more serious trouble on the streets of Marseille and in the stadium between England and Russia fans, which left both countries facing expulsion from the competition as violence threatened to spill over.

On Thursday, members of Machynlleth FC were drinking outside a bar in Lille ahead of the match in nearby Lens, which England won 2-1 with an injury-time winner from Daniel Sturridge after Wales had been given a half-time lead with a long-range free-kick from talisman Gareth Bale.
