Madam,

I was pleasantly surprised this week to see our MP Liz Saville-Roberts being a panel member on the BBC’s Politics Live. However, that soon turned to disappointment when it became apparent that she was going to devote the whole of her 45 minutes to petty party-political point-scoring over Labour’s stance on Brexit.

Some of the big issues in this area such as zero hours contracts, low pay and the role out of Universal Credit where totally overlooked and the only local issue she touched on was a passing reference to the impact of Brexit on farmers.

Was this a missed opportunity, or did it simply expose the fact that for many residents in this area, who face ongoing hardship of low wages, insecure jobs and benefit cuts, they have an MP for whom this is not a big priority?

Those who voted for Mrs Saville-Roberts may be discovering that fighting the Tory Government and austerity is not top of her Christmas list,. She would much sooner pick a fight with Labour.

A businessperson friend of mine recently told me he felt she was on the Conservative side of Plaid Cymru, at the time I was unsure but having seen her performance this week I think I can see what my friend meant.

In many parts of North West Wales we see that people have been struggling under years of Tory cuts and low wages and we need a champion to fight austerity not someone who is more interested in fighting amongst the progressive parties.

Yours etc,

Graham Hogg, Barmouth.
