A COUNCILLOR is calling for action to be taken on a two-mile stretch of trunk road that has had two sets of traffic lights for more than two years.

Cllr Rhodri Davies has reiterated calls for work to be started on repairing the A44 between Capel Bangor and Goginan, saying: “We are being forgotten and it is totally unacceptable.”

He added: “For over two years, there has been two sets of traffic lights due to an accident and a land slide. “I have been working closely with Elin Jones and the Welsh Government for the work to be carried out.

“Myself and residents are very frustrated with the lack of information that we have received.

“Over the last two year there has been a numerous of incidents and one unfortunately was a fatality.

“Motorists are frustrated of the lack of progress on these schemes.

“Enough is enough we need the work to be carried out.

“A date needs to be announced for the work to be done.

“We are being forgotten and it is totally unacceptable.”

In response, a Welsh Government spokesperson said: “We are in the process of carrying out a study of the A44 between Llangurig and Aberystwyth. The study aims to address congestion, junction efficiency and road safety.

“The two sets of traffic lights have been erected for road safety reasons due to slope stability concerns at the road edge following the collision damage at Capel Bangor and the landslip at Goginan.

“Design work is on-going looking into the defects which require a complex solution due to the steep topography and poor geology of this stretch of the A44.

“Our intention is to complete the site works and remove the temporary traffic lights upon completion of the works at Capel Bangor this financial year. “Due to the complexity of the work at the Goginan site further investigation and design work is required, construction is scheduled for completion later in 2022.”

Ceredigion MS Elin Jones who has been campaigning for work to commence for the last two years, said: “I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the work remains a priority.”
