Madam,
Your correspondent John Gee wrote an interesting letter in the Cambrian News (‘Don’t let drivers bully cyclists off the road’, 19 May) which mainly gave a cyclist’s account of the bad behaviour of motorists and their attitude, but completely overlooked the other part of the equation, known as the pedestrian.
I can clearly recall the days when cyclists were compelled by law to have a warning instrument (usually a bell) and lights, while cycling on the pavement or down one-way streets was strictly forbidden and rigorously enforced by the police in accordance with the local bylaws.
Perhaps one of your readers with legal knowledge could inform us whether or not the bylaws are still in existence and, if so, why they are not being enforced, or is it going to take a serious accident to bring the matter to the attention of the appropriate authorities?
Yours etc
