Madam,
There seems to be a pattern emerging surrounding the way in which cuts are justified by the county council in Ceredigion.
Bodlondeb was allowed to fall into disrepair, admissions were prevented so that the home ran at a loss and this was the county council’s justification for closure.
Now it seems that the county’s leisure centres have not been receiving sufficient maintenance. User numbers are down, so what next for our leisure centres?
The school music service is likely to be subjected to swingeing cuts and it is anticipated that student numbers will drop (starting to sound familiar?).
But the financial reality needs to be faced, as does the fact that we understand that 16p of every pound saved under PwC’s operational plan goes to PwC. Which means that for every, say, £200,000 the county council needs to save they actually have to make a cut of £237,120 if the generally accepted 16 per cent figure is correct.
Also, now the £23m earmarked for covering teachers’ salaries and pensions in Wales has come through, is there any chance of us getting our extra two per cent council tax back?
Yours etc, George Holloway, Rhoshendre, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth.
