A group of young performers and writers have pulled together to tell the true story of homelessness that faces youngsters in Ceredigion.

Today is World Homeless Day which draws attention to the plight of people across the globe and the issue is one not too far from our very own doorstep.

Ceredigion Youth Services, in collaboration with Arad Goch, have produced a video telling the true story of one local teenager who found himself homeless and having to sofa surf to have a roof over his head.

Lowri from Ceredigion Youth Services said: “Working with Arad Goch to produce this short film has been a fantastic experience.

"The original idea came from the young people, as we discussed ideas for our annual campaign, following a grant from CAVO.

“Aberystwyth’s Community Ambassadors, a crew of young people who are part of Ceredigion Youth Services, decided that it was important to educate and raise awareness of homelessness amongst young people and that it should be the focus of this year’s campaign.

“A film is a great visual tool for young people and professionals and we hope it raises awareness of the reality facing many young pupils who face homelessness.

"The young people involved have learnt valuable skills in film production, scriptwriting and editing.

"We hope to show the film in schools in the future, in order to educate and reduce the stigma around homelessness amongst young people.

"Thanks to Arad Goch for their support in creating a powerful creative tool”

Carwyn Blaney of Arad Goch added: “It was a pleasure to work on this project with such a great team of youth workers, very talented young people and based on a true story of a very brave individual; thanks to him for sharing his story and for letting us use it as the basis for this short film.

"Every one of the young people – the producers and the cast – worked hard on this project back in February, and you can be very pleased with the way you’ve discussed such a sensitive and important issue through this film.”

The short film, which was put together by youngsters from Ceredigion, will be released on 3 November at 6pm.
