PADARN United marched on into the second round of the Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies Memorial Cup with a thrilling 4-3 away win over battling Costcutter Ceredigion League division two outfit Dewi Stars.
The Stars were awarded an early penalty when Matt Toy was adjudged to have brought down Oscar Cayo Evans, and Gethin Thomas stepped up to slot home.
Padarn responded when Steve Jones found space at the far post from a corner to equalise from close range, but the home team regained the lead just before the break when a Leon Holmes corner was powerfully headed into the back of the net by the unfortunate Tegid Owen.
The Cambrian Tyres first division side started the second half on the front foot and it was soon 2-2 as young Aled Parry Evans struck a superb 35 yard shot that dipped under the crossbar at the last second, giving another youngster Iestyn Edwards no chance of keep the ball out.
This spurred the visitors on and two quick-fire goals put them in the clear on the hour, both scored by Paul Keegan. His first goal was a long range free kick that took a deflection, and the second was a routine tap in after the Stars lost possession trying to play out from the back.
The Stars, who fielded seven youth players, never gave up and with 10 minutes left, Siencyn Jones hit a screamer from the edge of the box into the roof of the net, after being set up by Ifan Thomas.
They continued to pressurise the Padarn goal and both Guto Green and Ifan Thomas came close, but Padarn held on to edge an exciting and sporting cup tie in a match well refereed by Nigel Edwards.
Bont’s Glyndwr Hughes rolled back the years as he smashed an incredible eight goals in a 10-0 thrashing of stunned Costcutter Ceredigion League club New Quay.
The hosts took control straight from the kick-off and forced the Quay keeper in to making three brilliant saves from Chris Wilkins, before Aberystwyth Town legend Hughes, who was drafted in to help a side depleted by injuries, scored his first.
The 41 year-old went on to score another three goals before half time to give Bont a 4-0 lead, and the second half continued with Bont totally dominating possession.
They scored another six goals to take their tally into double figures, with Hughes scoring another four goals, whilst Chris Wilkins and James Fox also scored.
Talybont marched on with a 4-1 win over Borth United Reserves, despite having gone behind early on in the match. An own goal, two strikes from Jamie Barron and a fourth goal by substitute Gareth Baker secured their progress.
Six players got on the scoresheet as Tregaron eased to a 6-0 win over Dolgellau Reserves, with goals from Arwel Jones, Ifan Jones, Rhun Garner, Ryan Hurrell, Carwyn Earey and Cerith Davies.
Mattie Davies scored twice as Penparcau notched a 5-2 extra-time win over holders Ffostrasol, with Mike Gornall, Lee Morgan and Neil Evans also scoring.
• COSTCUTTER Ceredigion League club Crannog coasted through to round two of the competition as they fired five past Cardigan at the King George field.
The Magpies, who were missing two midfield talismen in James Evans and Ben Davies, struggled to match the energy and physical strength of the visitors.
Robbie Evans was on target for the first two goals, having run on to a fine pass and slipped the ball under advancing keeper Steff Marsden for the first goal.
The second was a much easier goal as he was left unmarked in the box with the Town defence caught napping and he steered the ball home from a few yards.
At the other end Joost Burki went close with a header that flew just over the bar, but George Colven made it 3-0 at the break, and two more goals from Dylan Davies and Eifion Jones in the second half completed a one-sided away victory.
Llandysul maintained their winning momentum as they hammered Lampeter Town 6-1, with five second half goals. Jason Lynch netted on his debut before the interval and got a second within a minute of the restart, with the other goals coming from Chris Harries, who bagged a brace, Lewis Jones and Ifan Shon.
Costcutter division one leaders St Dogmaels meanwhile maintained their 100 per cent record for the campaign with an emphatic 12-1 win over Llanon.
Louis Harding led the goal rush with four goals, Peter Almond netted a hat-trick and the other marksmen for the Saints were Rhys Jones, Dan Jones, Chris Morgan, Jack Thomas and Billy Myers.
Celt T Jones scored twice as Llanboidy won 6-4 against Aberporth, with Sam Jackson, Jac Griffiths, Rhys Jenkins and Chris Bowen also on target for the hosts.
Maesglas were handed a walkover by Aberdyfi, who failed to raise a side.
