BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United’s dearly held wish to capture the Mawddach Cup, sponsored by their own club chairman, Will Huntley, was swept away by a shock 3-2 extra-time defeat to unsung Gaerwen
A defensive error let in James McNamee for the opening goal on 10 minutes, and keeper Adam Walters had to make several key saves to keep the hosts in the game.
Barmouth were still trailing up to the 88th minute, when Llion Owen’s cross-shot found its way into the visitors’ goal.
Gaerwen, however, looked stronger in extra-time, with goals from James Burgess on 103 minutes and Llion Jones on 118.
Glantraeth, losing Cup finalists last season, hammered Prestatyn Sports 6-0, with Corrig McGonigle netting a hat-trick, with goals on 7, 28 and 64 minutes.
Marvin Pritchard scored on 21 minutes, Gary Otto on 62 and Sion Hogan on 87.
Trearddur Bay United beat hosts Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3-2, with goals by Asa Thomason 6 minutes, Dale Murphy on 26 and Ryan Lees on 32, before Dan Evans’ reply on 70, from the penalty spot, and another by Alfie Caldicott on 88.
Llangefni Town beat Abergele Town 4-0, courtesy of goals from Craig Roberts on 39 minutes, Jack Williams on 44, Matthew Jones on 51 and Paul Rowlands on 90.
Amlwch Town notched a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Llandudno Junction, after the teams were deadlocked at 1-1.
Junction’s scorer was Dean Seager after 32 minutes, but Dan Jones levelled on 45.
Llanrwst United’s Aaron Hughes netted an 82nd minute winner in a 2-1 triumph at Llandudno Albion, after Stephen Whitley’s fifth minute goal was cancelled out by a Joel Lloyd a penalty after 28.
