AN 11-year-old Aberystwyth schoolgirl has braved having her long blonde hair chopped off to help children less fortunate than herself.

Libby Foulkes, who attends Ysgol Penweddig, has been growing her hair for over three years with the express purpose of helping the Little Princess Trust.

Libby, who lives in Taliesin, finally had her flowing golden locks cut off by Julia Roberts at Salon X in Dress Rail X at the top of Bridge Street, Aberystwyth on Saturday.

Her hair, which was striking because of its colour and because it was the length of Libby’s back, will be used to make a wig for a youngster who has lost her own hair due to treatment for cancer or leukaemia.

Libby needs to raise £350 for the charity and is looking for sponsors on her JustGiving page: https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/shelley-foulkes

Any cash she raises over and above this sum will go to the children’s ward at Bronglais Hospital.

Her mum Shelley, who has two other children, is extremely proud of Libby.

She said: “She has a really rare shade of blonde hair and she thought it would be nice to make a wig out of it for a girl suffering with cancer or leukaemia.”
