A DAY tripper who was stopped by traffic cops in Mallwyd over the weekend was arrested after testing positive for cannabis.
The motorist, from Birmingham according to police officers, was stopped near the roundabout in Mallwyd, between Machynlleth and Dinas Mawddwy, as they travelled to Wales for a ‘beach day’.
Officers from North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit wrote on social media: “Stopped this vehicle near Machynlleth this afternoon.
“They had travelled from Birmingham area for a beach day.
“Driver arrested for having no licence or insurance, drug driving (tested +ve for cannabis) & possession of cannabis.
“Vehicle seized.”
Officers from Dyfed Powys Police also reported that they issued 13 fines to a number of motorists and passengers who had travelled to Ceredigion beaches from all over the UK, with police officers from Aberystwyth adding: “Please remember Wales is still in lockdown.”
From today, Monday, people will be able to travel a short distance to see people from another household, with the recommendation being no further than five miles, but ministers have confirmed that five miles is not the legal limit.
