ABERDYFI coastguards were called out to rescue Boaty McBoatface last week.
On 18 September Aberdovey Harbour Launch assisted the interestingly titled vessel after it struggled with machinery failure, 800 metres off the coast of Aberdyfi.
The vessel, the name of which was most likely inspired by an infamous public poll last year, was towed to the shore by the harbour launch and no further medical assistance was required.
The name ‘Boaty McBoatface’ became popular in 2016 after the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) made the brave decision to ask the public to provide a name for its new £200 million research vessel.
Although ‘Boaty McBoatface’ won the public vote by some distance, it was decided that it was “inappropriate” for such an a vital piece of equipment and the ship was called RSS David Attenborough instead. A submarine located on the ship has been named Boaty McBoatface however.
