MACHYNLLETH residents have been thanked for their response after thousands of pounds was raised to replace money stolen from a nursery at Christmas.

It was reported in the Cambrian News in December that the Machynlleth Community Children’s Project nursery at Plas Grounds, Heol Maengwyn, was the victim of callous burglars who raided the premises, stealing hundreds of pounds, including Christmas fund-raising money, which was going to be used to buy toys and equipment for the children.

But the community has since rallied around the staff and children at the nursery and helped raise more than £2,000, which will help purchase items for the nursery, as well as pay for a new CCTV system.

Machynlleth PCSO Caz Monk has also donated a cheque for £400 on behalf of the former Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner and candidate for next month’s PCC elections, Christopher Salmon, which will help pay for the new security system.

Nursery manager Karen Roberts thanked the local community for helping raise the money.

She said: “We have had lots of donations from different people, and we have raised around £2,400, which has included some fund-raising activity.

“The money raised will go towards a new security system and new equipment for the children.

“Everybody who has donated in the local communities have been so kind, so I would like to say thank-you.”
