Police have confirmed that a man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea off the coast of Hells Mouth Beach, Porth Neigwl.
The coastguard, Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Police were called to the beach on Friday following reports of three people in difficulty in the water.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “A man has sadly died after getting into difficulty in the water in Porth Neigwl on Friday, 6 August.
“North Wales Police were called at 2.45pm to a report that a man had been pulled from the water.
“The emergency services attended, including the coastguard and Welsh Ambulance Service, but sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are supporting the man’s family and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.”
A spokesperson for the coastguard said: “At approximately 2.30pm on Friday, 6 August, HM Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public about three people in difficulty in the water at Hells Mouth, Porth Neigwl.
“Coastguard rescue teams from Aberdaron and Abersoch were sent alongside the search and rescue helicopter from Caernarfon, the Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Police.”
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency on Porth Neigwl beach, Abersoch at 2.35pm on Friday, 6 August.
“We sent the Wales Air Ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and two emergency ambulance crews to the scene where we worked with colleagues in the coastguard. No further details are available."
