The reintroduction of CCTV cameras in Ceredigion as part of a Dyfed-Powys-wide scheme is helping to make communities “safe and secure”, Dyfed-Powys’ police and crime commissioner has said.

Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn had made it a pledge when he was seeking election to the role to reintroduce CCTV cameras in 24 towns, including Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Cardigan.

That has now been completed and, after giving councillors a tour of the CCTV suite where cameras are monitored, there was praise for the reintroduction of the cameras.

Mr Llywelyn said: “I am really pleased that the CCTV project has come to fruition and is now completed.

“It’s all about making sure our communities are as safe and secure as possible and it is very encouraging to see the positive impact the CCTV infrastructure, its centralised monitoring suite and our team of CCTV operators are having on policing throughout the force.

“I look forward to being able to open our doors to the community representatives once again, for them to see the system to understand the level of investment made and for them to see the impact CCTV is already having throughout the force.”

Aberystwyth councillor Ceredig Davies was one of the councillors who visited the suite.

He said: “Not only have we our cameras back but there are more of them and the quality of the recorded video footage was far superior to what we had in the past."
