A CARDIFF holidaymaker is offering a £100 reward for the return of his family’s two kayaks which went missing from a caravan site at Cei Bach, near New Quay, at the end of last month.
Chris Hoyles told the Cambrian News that the kayaks – which disappeared on Thursday, 30 August despite being padlocked with a heavy chain to a fixed structure - were of sentimental value.
“We are from Cardiff originally but my partner nursed in New Zealand for seven years and I worked for a care agency,” he said.
“We took up sea kayaking and fishing as new hobbies while living in Auckland.
“The kayaks were very much part of our lives and we were on them when we had close encounters with orca and dolphins and so brought them back with us in 2012. Since then we have used them off the Ceredigion coast for fishing and have had close encounters with seals and dolphins.
“Our four-year-old grandson has just had his first trips out.”
One kayak is orange, the other yellow and both are Scrambler 11s - 11ft in length with adaptations for sea fishing. They were manufactured by Johnson in New Zealand.
“As they are of foreign manufacture and have been modified they are quite unique and easy for us to identify,” added Mr Hoyles.
“Although stolen in Cei Bach, they could turn up anywhere in west Wales so please keep an eye out and help us if you can.”
